A design built on our opposites
One thing I didn’t truly understand until it happened was having a mini who was not just mini version of myself. My first - he is me.
He wears his heart like I do, is helpful and kind and fits into the mould of everything that life asks of us. He is reliable and solid, he carries the burdens and cuts of life in silence, we are one in the same.
To parent this one, is just matter of looking inward. What isn’t being said. What are we holding close to our chest? This, I could relate to.
And into the mix came a cyclone.
She is determined in a way I never saw coming. She knows exactly what she wants, how she wants to dress, what she wants to eat. This Miss 4, came in like the proverbial wrecking ball and made us all question what it is to parent. To try and calm the storm without putting out her light.
Because she is light. All things rainbow, accessories and joy. We want to dance, and sing, and celebrate the beauty around us. Picking wildflowers on wanders, complimenting outfits with gusto, giant servings of love served on a platter. She is a diamond in human form. But don’t serve venom because her return is immaculate. Reflecting whatever it is that you serve her.
She is the inspiration behind the Duo-Pear Diamond (SHOP DESIGN).
I am the solid gold stone. Ever present. Stoic. But easily marked by life over the years.
She. She is firm in her resolve. Dare to try and change her mind. She is light reflected in all the prisms. Every colour of the rainbow and all the joy that that brings. She is beauty and magic rolled into one.
This piece, she is a celebration of the hidden wonder in having vastly different beings in the same household. One that spins and another who anchors. One who is steady and the other who dreams in vivid colour.
It’s not about forcing a match.
Sometimes we don’t even meet in the middle. But we’re not chasing symmetry in this instance. Not in the design of the ring and not in life. It’s like a see-saw, a balancing act of our personalities, which will change and flow as the years progress. As we ourselves learn, grow and morph into new versions of ourselves.
This is a marker of our differences in this moment. Here’s to that.
